More info: Turquoise is one of the oldest and most revered stones in history, and many ancient and modern cultures have utilized Turquoise for its power. The blue is caused by inclusions of copper and the green is caused by inclusions of iron. Turquoise is the official state gemstone of Arizona and New Mexico, and the national gemstone of Iran. The name comes from the French term "pierre turquoise," which means "Turkish stone." Turquoise was used in the burial mask for King Tutankhamen, and was also one of the stones in the Jewish High Priest's breastplate described in Exodus in the Bible. In the Americas, Turquoise was a sacred stone used by indigenous people to decorate images of their ancestors and the gods, and was seen as a way to link the spiritual realm to the physical realm. Turquoise deposits can be found in Iran, Afghanistan, Australia, Tibet, and the southwestern USA.
